Isle of Skye

Inner Hebrides

The largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye was connected to mainland Scotland by the Skye Bridge in 1996. Created volcanically some 60 million years ago in the unique Black Cuillin, its awe-inspiring landscapes extending to the more rounded Red Cuillin and MacLeod’s Tables, are a paradise for walkers and climbers. Bizarre rock formations punctuate The Quiraing, with the Old Man of Storr, Trotternish to the north-east and Vaternish to the northwest. Enclosed by an indented 356 miles (570 km) long coastline, nowhere on Skye is more than 5 miles (8 km) from the sea.
