Transit Neptune’s Staircase and cruise the Caledonian Canal to Fort Augustus. Fort Augustus - Walks ashore.

This morning, Lord of the Highlands ascends the impressive eight inter-connected locks of Neptune’s Staircase to Banavie in the shadow of Ben Nevis, before sailing through Loch Lochy in the heart of the Great Glen. Steep, forested hillsides give this scenic area a fjord-like feel to the landscape. We transit the tranquil, tree-lined Laggan Avenue before arriving at the highest point of the canal, Loch Oich at just over 100 feet above sea level. Our final afternoon is spent enjoying free time to explore Fort Augustus, the gateway to Loch Ness, which takes its name from a fort built after the defeat of the 1715 Jacobite uprising, ahead of the farewell reception and gala dinner.
