Sunday 9th October

Craignure, Mull – Visit to Iona. Tobermory, Mull – Overnight berth.

This morning we sail to Craignure on Mull for the excursion to the Isle of Iona, the last resting place of some 50 Scottish Kings and where St. Columba introduced Christianity to Scotland. After exploring the sacred isle and the restored Benedictine abbey, we sail to the island capital of Tobermory where we remain alongside overnight.

Monday 10th October

Tobermory, Mull – Free time to explore at leisure. Oban – Walking tour and McCaig’s Folly.

After breakfast we venture ashore in Tobermory to discover the brightly painted houses which line the waterfront; originally built by the British Fisheries Company to house its workers, they were constructed at a cost of £20 each. Our afternoon port of call is Oban, the gateway of the isles. We stretch our legs on a walking tour of the town and visit the impressive McCaig’s Folly for spectacular vistas across the bay to the Atlantic Isles.

Tuesday 11th October

Cruise Loch Linnhe to Corpach and transit Neptune’s Staircase to Banvie. Scenic West Highland Railway to Glenfinnan.

We spend the morning relaxing on board Lord of the Highlands as we cruise Loch Linnhe to Corpach at the entrance of the Caledonian Canal. From here, Lord of the Highlands ascends the impressive eight inter-connected locks of Neptune’s Staircase to Banavie in the shadow of Ben Nevis. From Banavie we take the West Highland Railway to Glenfinnan and cross the 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct which overlooks Loch Shiel and the Jacobite monument. Considered by many to be the most scenic railway line in the world, we travel through a scenic landscape of mountains, steep-sided lochs, and heather moors.

Wednesday 12th October

Cruise the Caledonian Canal, Lochs Lochy and Oich. Fort Augustus - Walks ashore.

Today we sail through Loch Lochy in the heart of the Great Glen. Steep, forested hillsides give this scenic area a fjord-like feel to the landscape. We transit the tranquil, tree-lined Laggan Avenue before arriving at the highest point of the canal, Loch Oich at just over 100 feet above sea level. Our final afternoon is spent enjoying free time to explore Fort Augustus, the gateway to Loch Ness, which takes its name from a fort built after the defeat of the 1715 Jacobite uprising, ahead of the farewell reception and gala dinner.

Thursday 13th October

Fort Augustus – Disembarkation.

We disembark in Fort Augustus after breakfast and are transferred to Inverness for the onward journey home.
