Fort Augustus – Embarkation.

The Captain and crew welcome you on board in Fort Augustus where we remain overnight.

Sunday 22nd October

Cruise the Caledonian Canal and transit Neptune’s Staircase to Corpach.

Our first full day is spent relaxing on board as we sail to the highest point of the canal, Loch Oich at just over 100 feet above sea level, before transitting the pretty, tree-lined Laggan Avenue. Onwards through Loch Lochy in the heart of the Great Glen where steep, forested hillsides give this scenic area a fjord-like feel to the landscape. At Gairlochy we re-join the man made waterway and descend the impressive eight inter-connected locks of Neptune’s Staircase to Corpach where we berth overnight.

Monday 23rd October

Scenic West Highland Railway to Glenfinnan. Cruise Loch Linnhe and the Sound of Mull to Tobermory.

From Corpach, we take a scheduled train along part of the West Highland Railway to Glenfinnan and cross the 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct which overlooks Loch Shiel and the Jacobite monument. Considered by many to be the most scenic railway line in the world, we travel through a scenic landscape of mountains, steep-sided lochs, and heather moors. We spend the afternoon cruising Loch Linnhe and the Sound of Mull to our overnight berth at Tobermory.

Tuesday 24th October

Tobermory, Mull – Free time to explore at leisure. Craignure, Mull – Duart Castle.

We venture ashore at Tobermory to discover the brightly painted houses which line the waterfront; originally built by the British Fisheries Company to house its workers, they were constructed at a cost of £20 each. Onwards to Craignure where Duart Castle has been home to the Clan Maclean for over 700 years.

Wednesday 25th October

Craignure, Mull – Visit to Iona. Oban – Oban Distillery.

This morning, we travel to the Isle of Iona, the last resting place of some 50 Scottish Kings and where St. Columba introduced Christianity to Scotland. After exploring the sacred isle and the restored Benedictine abbey, we sail to Oban, home to one of the smallest and oldest distilleries in Scotland. Our tour offers the chance to witness the traditional craftsmanship of whisky production first-hand, before enjoying a complimentary dram.

Thursday 26th October

Oban – Disembarkation.

We disembark in Oban after breakfast and are transferred to Inverness for the onward journey home.
