29th July - Bergen and the Spectacular Western Fjords

Through the rocky isles, islets and skerries north of Bergen lies the world's second longest and deepest fjord, the ethereal Sognefjord.  Further north the unexplored Geiranger Fjord and the art-nouveau town of Alesund conceal a host pf hidden treasures.  Cruise into the superlative majesty of Norway in inimtable Hebridean style.

Embarkation took place in the picturesque port of Bergen.

30th July 2017.

After a glorious morning cruise from Bergen through Fensfjord and Sognefjord, we arrived at Florø at lunchtime.  As this is our first call here - and the only cruise ship this year - we exchanged plaques with the Harbour Master, Jostein Bergset.

From Florø a coach was available to take guests to visit the Kystmuseet (Coastal Museum) in the afternoon.


We remained alongside in Florø overnight.

31st July 2017.

This morning was spent at Selje Island where guests visited the Benedictine Abbey.


In the afternoon, from our berth at Måløy, a coach departed to take guests on the ‘Måløy round trip tour of Vågsøy.

The European Deep Sea Fishing Championships took place in Måløy during our stay. 14 national teams competed at sea and the catch was landed at the seaside in the centre of Måløy.  Upon return from their tour, guests had the opportunity to see a lot of different species and the biggest fish was on display on the podium.

1st August 2017

After a morning cruising Storfjord on passage to Eidsdal, guests were tendered ashore to visit the mountain farm of Herdalssetra.

We berthed overnight at Hellesylt.

2nd August 2017

During breakfast we cruised into Geiranger Fjord.  On arrival at Geiranger a coach was available to take guests for the “Geiranger Panorama” tour.

After a relaxing afternoon cruising Storfjord we arrived in Ålesund where we berthed alongside overnight.

3rd August 2017

From Ålesund our morning tour was “The Islands of Giske & Godøy” by coach, followed by an afternoon walking tour of Ålesund entitled “Art Nouveau City on foot”.  Alternatively, guests had the opportunity to explore Ålesund independently.

We departed Ålesund in the early evening for our overnight anchorage.

4th August 2017

This morning was spent enjoying a scenic cruise Nordefjord on passage to Loen.

At Loen guests took the “Loen Skylift” to the top of the mountain Hoven (1011m) for a panoramic view of the area.

We arrived and berthed alongside at Olden in the evening, where we remained overnight.

5th August 2017

From our berth at Olden, a coach departed to take guests for a morning cruise on Lake Loen and for a visit to the Kjenndalsbre Glacier.

We spent a lesiurely afternoon cruising towards Sognefjord.

6th August 2017

This morning we arrived in Eivindvik for a walking tour of the village with its ancient history and centuries old church.

When all guests were back on board we spent the afternoon cruising south through Fedjefjorden and past Bergen on passage towards our overnight anchorage off Lysøen.

7th August 2017

Guests we tendered ashore at Lysøen for a guided tour of Ole Bull’s Villa, holiday home of the eccentric 19th century violinist.

Our final port of call was Bergen, where guests took part in a walking tour which included Fløien and the Hanseatic Museum.

8th August 2017.

Disembarkation took place in Bergen this morning and guests were transferred to the airport for their flights home.
