We start the day with a cable-car ride up Table Mountain.
The car’s rotating floor gives passengers 360-degree
views as it travels up to 1,067m. There is the chance to
take lunch ashore, followed by an afternoon of leisure,
relaxing on the V&A waterfront or taking an independent
trip to Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson
Mandela was incarcerated.
MONDAY 22ND DECEMBER
Cape Town, South Africa
We drive through the Western Cape and its scenic
Winelands, stopping at the Vergelegen Estate, its
manor house and gardens beautifully set against the
Hottentots Holland Mountains. Guests will enjoy a winetasting
before we continue to Stellenbosch, the second
oldest settlement in the province, and lunch at the
Tokara Restaurant, sampling wines from its estate.
TUESDAY 23RD DECEMBER
At sea.
WEDNESDAY 24TH DECEMBER
Mossel Bay, South Africa
We drive through the verdant Garden Route to
Oudtshoorn near the Swartberg Mountains. The town is
home to the world’s largest ostrich population, and we
take a tour of a breeding farm before lunch ashore.
Guests can attend Midnight Mass at Mossel Bay.
THURSDAY 25TH DECEMBER
Mossel Bay, South Africa
Guests enjoy a relaxing Christmas Day in the South
African sunshine. There are wildlife walks or painting
classes ashore, followed by a traditional Christmas dinner.
FRIDAY 26TH DECEMBER

SATURDAY 27TH DECEMBER
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
We spend the day on safari at the Kariega Game
Reserve. Set above the spectacular Kariega Valley, the
reserve is home to the Big Five and many bird species.
Guests will take game drives in open 4x4s and enjoy a
riverboat cruise.
SUNDAY 28TH DECEMBER
East London, South Africa
We take a morning tour of East London, visiting the
East London Museum to see a zoological marvel: the
coelacanth found in the city harbour in 1938. We head
to Gonubie Beach for a swim before lunch and an
afternoon at sea.
MONDAY 29TH DECEMBER
At sea
TUESDAY 30TH DECEMBER
Richard’s Bay, South Africa
We visit the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a coastal
wilderness reserve and World Heritage Site. Guests will
take a boat ride on the 36,000-hectare lake,
encountering pelicans, hippos and crocodiles. We return
for lunch on board and set sail for Mozambique.
WEDNESDAY 31ST DECEMBER
Maputo, Mozambique
Arriving in Mozambique’s capital, we visit Gustav Eiffel’s
railway station, the local market at the Jardin Tundura
Botanical Gardens. After lunch at the Polana Hotel,
guests can swim or stroll around Maputo.
THURSDAY 1ST JANUARY 2009
Maputo, Mozambique
Happy New Year! A unique Hebridean visit will be offered
to guests, details of which will be sent prior to departure.
FRIDAY 2ND JANUARY

SATURDAY 3RD JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
We head for the Shakaland Cultural Village in
KwaZula-Natal. Guests will be able to observe Zulu
traditions, including fighting techniques, dancing
and cooking. There is free time after lunch with an
opportunity to buy locally made souvenirs.
SUNDAY 4TH JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
We take a guided tour of Durban, settled by the British in
1824. We visit its Botanic Gardens, established in colonial
times and now home to a bromeliad, cycad and orchid
collection. There is the chance to lunch ashore with
leisure time in the afternoon.
MONDAY 5TH JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
Guests disembark Hebridean Spirit in Durban.
