Venice, Italy
We arrive in Venice and take a walking tour of this magical city, a dazzling combination
of light and water, whimsical palazzi and precious churches. Our tour will take in St
Mark’s Square, crowned by the Byzantine masterpiece of St Mark’s Basilica, and the
Galleria dell’Accademia, which contains the world’s finest collection of Venetian art,
including works by Bellini,Titian and Tintoretto. Guests can lunch ashore and stroll
around the city at leisure in the afternoon.
FRIDAY 10TH OCTOBER
Venice, Italy – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
The morning sees us explore on land and water as we take a leisurely gondola ride
through the city’s network of 150 canals. Guests can lunch ashore and enjoy free time
in the afternoon, perhaps soaking up the atmosphere or exploring the many piazzas
and palazzi off the beaten track.
SATURDAY 11TH OCTOBER
Ravenna, Italy
Our day starts with a tour of Ravenna. Seat of the Roman Empire in the fifth century
and of Byzantine Italy until the eighth, the city has an impressive collection of early
Christian monuments and mosaics. On our tour we will see World Heritage Sites
including the Basilica of San Vitale, which has the best-preserved Byzantine mosaics
outside Istanbul; the architecturally simple yet sumptuously decorated Basilica of
Sant’Apollinare in Classe; and the Baptistry of Neon, which dates to the late fourth
century. Guests can lunch ashore and pass a leisurely afternoon, while walkers can go
bird and waterfowl-spotting in the Delta del Po nature park, extensive riverside
marshes inhabited by terns, gulls and cormorants.
SUNDAY 12TH OCTOBER
Trogir, Croatia
After a morning at sea, we arrive in Croatia and take a walking tour of this historic
island-harbour city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside its walled, medieval centre
are the 15th century Kamerlengo Castle, several Romanesque churches, Baroque and
Renaissance buildings. On our tour, guests will visit the 13th century Cathedral of St
Lawrence, whose main portal is a masterpiece by the sculptor Radovan.
MONDAY 13TH OCTOBER
Hvar, Croatia – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
Arriving on the island of Hvar, we take a walking tour of the harbourfront Hvar Town.
The old city was laid out in the 15th century and is a charismatic mix of tiny streets,
medieval palaces and Venetian churches. Our tour takes in St Stephen’s Cathedral and
the Franciscan monastery, followed by a private performance by a’cappella singers.
Lunch can be taken ashore and guests will have free time in Hvar and the chance for a
swim.Walkers can embark on a hike from the abandoned village of Velo Gradlje on the
Hvar plateau through the countryside to the peaceful harbour town of Milna.
TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER
Dubrovnik, Croatia – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We reach Dubrovnik and take a morning walking tour of this historic town, formerly
known as Ragusa.The town was at its greatest maritime power in the 15th and 16th
centuries, and the Palace of Sponza, built between 1516 and 1522, was one of its most
important buildings. Guests can lunch ashore and spend the afternoon exploring
Dubrovnik, while walkers can hike along a sixth century road towards Bosanka village
and up to Srdj Hill, which offers splendid views of the old town and its harbourfront.

The Venetians ruled Hvar between 1420 and 1797 and
left behind churches adorned with paintings by leading

Ragusa’s maritime trade rivalled that of Venice in
the 15th and 16th centuries. Prosperous yet liberal
and forward-thinking, Ragusa was a seat of learning
