We drive to Gastouri, a village overlooking Corfu Town, to visit Achillion Palace. Built in
1892 as a summer retreat for Empress Elizabeth of Austria, the palace was later owned
by Kaiser Wilhelm II. Many statues decorate the picturesque gardens, including one of
Achilles, to whom the palace was dedicated. Inside are a chapel, beautifully restored
rooms and many family heirlooms. Guests can lunch ashore and spend the afternoon at
leisure, with swimming possible from a nearby beach.
FRIDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER

In the morning, guests visit Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This 29-acre park is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the country
and dates back to the Bronze Age. Guests will see key monuments including the city
walls, the theatre which was part of the fourth century BC Sanctuary of Asclepius,
the Baptistry and the Great Basilica.We return to the ship for lunch and sail to Kotor
in the late afternoon.
SATURDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER
Kotor, Montenegro – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
After a morning at sea, we enter the spectacular Gulf of Kotor and arrive in Kotor to
take a tour of this extraordinary medieval town and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Guests will see the Cathedral of St Tryphon, built in 1166 in honour of the town’s
patron saint; town gates dating from the 9th to the 15th centuries; Romanesque
churches including the Church of St Luke and the Maritime Museum.
SUNDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER
Kotor, Montenegro – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
In the morning, guests have free time to further explore Kotor or relax in its pretty
squares. After lunch on board, the ship’s tenders take guests out into the bay to visit
the island of Gospa od Skrpjela and its church, Our Lady of the Rocks. Built in 1630,
the church is decorated with 68 paintings by Tripo Kokolja, one of Croatia’s most
famous Baroque artists.We sail on to the neighbouring islet of Sv Djordje, which
belongs to a 12th century Benedictine monastery, and come ashore to the village
of Perast, home to many sumptuous Baroque palaces and the Church of St Nicholas.
MONDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER
Korcula Town, Korcula, Croatia
Arriving late morning, we take a walking tour of Korcula Town.This charming walled
town, peppered with towers, was built in the 15th century when local men were
renowned throughout the Adriatic for their stone-carving skills. Guests will visit St
Mark’s Cathedral and the house where Marco Polo was allegedly born. Guests can
lunch ashore and take an afternoon swim on a nearby beach or on the island of Badija,
accessible by water taxi. An exhibition of Moreska sword dancing, a 15th century ‘fighting dance’ unique to Korcula, will take place in the early evening.
TUESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER
Trogir & Split, Croatia
We take a morning walking tour of Trogir, a historic island-harbour city and UNESCO
World Heritage Site. Inside its walled, medieval core are a castle and tower,
Romanesque churches and beautiful Baroque and Renaissance buildings. Guests will visit
the 13th century Cathedral of St Lawrence, whose main portal is a masterpiece by the
sculptor Radovan. After lunch on board, we sail to Split where guests will be able to
enjoy free time exploring and relaxing in this pretty town.

Sometimes called the Kotor Fjord, the Gulf of Kotor
is one of the most spectacular landscapes of the
Adriatic, where rugged mountains meet calm waters
dotted with islets.
SUNDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER
GOSPA OD SKRPJELA ISLAND
Legend says this island was built by local fishermen.
Finding an icon of the Virgin with Child on a rock, they
vowed to build a church upon it. As the island had to
be maintained, the seamen continued to bring rocks,
a tradition that remains today.
