We take a morning tour of Athens, driving on to the Vorres Museum of Contemporary
Art in Peania.This 10-acre complex of buildings, courtyards and gardens has a collection
of over 6,000 items spanning 4,000 years of Greek history, from modern paintings to
ancient artefacts. After lunch ashore, we return to the ship and set sail for Itea.
FRIDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

In the morning, we drive up Mount Parnassus to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of
Delphi.The site of the most important oracle in the Classical Greek world, Delphi was
a major sanctuary and pilgrimage centre from the sixth century BC and was believed
by the ancients to be the centre of the earth. Landmarks of the site include the Temple
of Apollo, the Athenian Treasury and the theatre.We return to the ship for lunch on
board and an afternoon at sea.
SATURDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER
Patras, Greece
We arrive in the northern Peloponnese city of Patras, mentioned in Greek mythology
and a thriving Roman colony in the second century AD. Our morning tour will take in
the church of patron saint St Andrew, built on the site of his crucifixion, the Roman
Odeon and the Patras Archaeological Museum. After lunch on board, we drive into the
hills to a vineyard, where we will enjoy a tasting of appellation Patras wines.
SUNDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER
Fiskardo, Kefalonia, Greece
We arrive at Fiskardo in northern Kefalonia for a day of exploration and relaxation. In
the morning, we take a walking tour of this fishing village, which has several sites of
interest including the ruins of a 12th century chapel, believed to have been built by the
Norman invader Robert Guiscard who gave the town its name.There are many
Venetian buildings and the Roman remains of houses, a bathing complex and cemetery.
Guests can lunch ashore and enjoy an afternoon relaxing by the 19th century harbour,
shopping, or swimming from the beach nearby.
MONDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER
Preveza, Greece
In the morning, we drive to the site of Cassope, the capital of Cassopaea, founded in
the fourth century BC. It has a spectacular location 600 metres above sea and is
considered to be one of the best-preserved ancient Greek cities, with ruins including
the 2,000-seat Odeon and 6,000-seat theatre.The Romans destroyed Cassope in
167BC and its inhabitants were forced to settle in Nicopolis, whose ruins we visit next.
The Acropolis, two theatres and an aqueduct are the few remains of a city that once
had 20,000 inhabitants.We return to the ship for lunch and set sail for Albania.
TUESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER
Butrint, Albania – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
Hebridean Spirit’s tenders take guests ashore for a tour of Butrint National Park, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in south-west Albania. Surrounded by woodland and
a freshwater lagoon, the park spans 29 square kilometres and contains archaeological
sites from the Bronze Age to the 19th century. Key landmarks include the city walls,
a theatre which was part of the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the Baptistry and Great Basilica.
The Butrint Museum showcases findings and the history of the site.We return to the
ship for lunch and an afternoon of leisure.

This fascinating gallery and museum comprises two
sections. One is devoted to modern Greek art;
the other showcases artefacts through the ages in
traditional rural houses and stables.
FRIDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER
DELPHI
Delphi was revered throughout the Greek world as
the site of the omphalos stone, believed to allow
communication with the gods. In the Temple of Apollo,
where a scared fire burned, devotees would question
the Pythia, or priestess, who channelled the spirit of
the god.
TUESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER
BUTRINT NATIONAL PARK
Butrint’s early growth was due to its Sanctuary to
Asclepius, founded in the fourth century BC. Devoted
to the god of healing, the sanctuary attracted worshippers
who believed in the sacred powers of its waters.
