Thessaloniki, Greece – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We depart for Vergina and a morning tour of the ancient city of Aigai, the first capital
of the Kingdom of Macedonia.The site comprises an amazing burial ground containing
more than 300 mausoleums dating back to the 11th century BC, among them the
tomb of Philip II. A treasure trove of gold art and artefacts has been recovered from
the ornate tombs and is on display.We return to Thessaloniki, where guests can lunch
ashore, then join a tour of the Museum of Byzantine Culture.
FRIDAY 29TH AUGUST
Myrina, Lemnos, Greece
In the morning, we sail round the holy Mount Athos, the seat of Orthodox Christianity
and home to 20 monasteries. Reaching Lemnos, we drive to Poliochni Hill, site of an
Early Bronze Age settlement, and visit its Museum of Archaeology to see the superb
collection of findings from the site.We return to Myrina, where guests have free time
to stroll around this pretty port town and lunch ashore. An afternoon of leisure is in
store, the perfect opportunity to have a swim on one of the island’s fine sandy beaches.
SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST
Andros, Greece – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We start the day with a tour of the old town of Hora, visiting the Museum of
Contemporary Art, a non-profit, educational venture of the Basil & Elise Goulandris
Foundation which showcases the work of leading Greek and international artists.
Guests can lunch ashore before we leave for the seaside town of Batsi, one of the most
beautiful spots on Andros.
SUNDAY 31ST AUGUST
Lavrion, Greece – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We take a scenic morning drive along the winding Apollo Coast to Cape Sounion,
location of the white-marble Temple of Poseidon, built in 444BC in the Doric style.
We continue to the village of Vravrona to see the Sanctuary of Artemis, and on to
Marathonas, where we will have lunch ashore near Marathonas Lake and its dam,
constructed with the same white marble used in the Parthenon and other buildings
in the Athens Acropolis.We return to the ship for an afternoon of leisure on board
and the chance to perhaps enjoy a spa treatment.
MONDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
Poros Town, Poros, Greece
Arriving on Poros’s southern coast, we take a morning tour of Poros Town on foot.
Guests have free time to stroll around the picturesque harbour and up to the hilltop
clocktower before we return to the ship for lunch and our afternoon transit through
the Corinth Canal. Built between 1881 and 1893, the 21-metre-wide canal is too
narrow for modern ships but accommodates Hebridean Spirit, allowing us to nip back
to mainland Greece, avoiding a 400km detour through the Peloponnese.
TUESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER
Corinth, Greece
In the morning, we leave port to take a tour of the ancient city of Corinth which, in
Roman times, had supplanted Athens as the capital of the Greek province.The ruins
are spread out over a vast area, but our tour will concentrate on the main excavations,
which include the Roman agora and fifth century BC Temple of Apollo, a rare survival
from the Classical Greek era.There is the opportunity for lunch ashore, followed by
an afternoon of independent sightseeing or pure relaxation.

Guests disembark Hebridean Spirit in Corinth.

Philip II conquered the Greek cities, paving the way for
his son Alexander the Great to build his empire.The
lamax (gold casket) bearing Philip’s remains is engraved
with the sign of the sun, adopted as the symbol of
Greek Macedonia.
SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST
BATSI
The hillside town of Batsi leads down to a fine natural
harbour and golden-sand beach.The resort has many
chic cafes and tavernas and is the perfect place to
watch the world go by.
SUNDAY 31ST AUGUST
TEMPLE OF POSEIDON
Set back from the cliffs with breathtaking views of the
Aegean Sea and islands, this Doric temple, dedicated to
the god of the sea, was built from local white marble.
