We take a morning drive to the summit of Mount Etna for a tour of Europe’s largest
active volcano. Guests can walk around the crater and enjoy views over the striking
monochrome landscape of lava fields and snow. Our descent takes us into Catania,acity
of Baroque splendour with wide boulevards and grand 18th century palazzi.We return
to the ship for lunch and spend the afternoon at sea en route to the Ionian islands.
THURSDAY 26TH JUNE
Fiskardo, Kefalonia, Greece
After a morning at sea, we disembark at Fiskardo on the northernmost tip of the island
of Kefalonia.This pretty fishing town escaped the ravages of the 1953 earthquake and
its 19th century harbourfront and many Venetian buildings are consequently well
preserved. A guided walking tour takes in sights including two lighthouses, Roman ruins
and the remains of a 12th century chapel, said to have been built by the Norman
invader Robert Guiscard.There is free time to relax at Fiskardo’s waterside cafes and
shop in its quaint boutiques, plus the opportunity to swim.

Ithaka is a verdant Ionian island blessed with many beautiful beaches. Guests can spend
the morning swimming and snorkelling or explore the capital on foot.Three key

and Alalkomenae.We return to the ship for lunch and an afternoon at sea.
SATURDAY 28TH JUNE
Itea, Greece
In the morning, we drive up Mount Parnassus to take a guided sightseeing tour of the
UNESCO World Heritage Site of Delphi.The site of the Delphi oracle, the most
important oracle in the classical Greek world, it became a major sanctuary and
pilgrimage centre from the sixth century BC and was believed by the ancients to be
the centre of the earth. Our tour will take in landmarks including the ruins of the
Temple of Apollo, the Athenian Treasury and the Altar of the Chians.There is free time
to explore at leisure before we return to ship for lunch and an afternoon at sea.
SUNDAY 29TH JUNE
Hydra, Greece
After a morning sail down the Corinth Canal, the ship’s tenders will take guests ashore
to Hydra Town. Guests can take a walking tour of this enchanting port town, built in the
form of an amphitheatre with whitewashed houses set into the rocky landscape.There
will be free time to absorb the tranquil atmosphere of this car-free island, where the
sole mode of transport is donkey.
MONDAY 30TH JUNE
Nafplion, Greece – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
The morning sees us depart for a guided tour of the ancient city of Mycenae, the most
important palatial centre of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Most of the monuments
visible today, including the palace complex, its shrines and temples, granaries and
guardrooms, were built between 1350 and 1200BC. Guests can lunch ashore before
we proceed to Nafplion.There is the choice of a walking tour of the town’s labyrinth
of narrow streets, medieval fortresses and Venetian architecture, or free time to
explore at leisure.

Mount Etna itself was mythologised by the ancient
world.The Greeks believed it housed the forge of
Hephaestus, the god of fire, and that Aeolus, the
god of wind, imprisoned the winds in caves beneath
the volcano.

ITHAKA ISLAND
Odysseus’s legendary homeland, Ithaka was the capital
of a Mycenaean kingdom comprising Kefalonia,
Zakinthos and Lefkas. In its heyday under Odysseus,
it despatched 12 ships to the Trojan war.
MONDAY 30TH JUNE
MYCENAE
The ancient city of Mycenae was thought to exist only in
legend and Homer’s epic poetry, but was discovered by
amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schlieman in 1870, using
landmarks from the Iliad.
