TRAVEL PLAN

TUESDAY 27TH MAY
Nice, France
Guests embark Hebridean Spirit in Nice.

WEDNESDAY 28TH MAY
Portovenere, Italy
In the morning, we board local boats to Vernazza. The most spectacular of the five Cinque Terre villages and the only natural harbour on this coastline of sheer cliffs and coves,Vernazza has narrow lanes and tall, colourful houses and is overlooked by the medieval Belforte castle, built in the mid-1500s by the Genoese. Lunch can be taken ashore in Portovenere, where we will spend the afternoon exploring on foot. This historic Ligurian village has a clutch of notable sights: the waterfront Palazzata, 12th century gate and 16th century castle. Lord Byron used to swim across the bay from Grotto Arpaia to visit Shelley in San Terenzo.

After lunch on board, we visit Pisa for a guided walk of the town, visiting the Campo dei Miracoli (the Field of Miracles) with its 12th century Cathedral, Baptistry and Camposanto (cemetery).
