Portovenere, Italy
In the morning, we board local boats to Vernazza.The most spectacular of the five
Cinque Terre villages and the only natural harbour on this coastline of sheer cliffs
and coves,Vernazza has narrow lanes and tall, colourful houses and is overlooked by
the medieval Belforte castle, built in the mid-1500s by the Genoese. Lunch can be
taken ashore in Portovenere, where we will spend the afternoon exploring on foot.
This historic Ligurian village has a clutch of notable sights: the waterfront Palazzata,
12th century gate and 16th century castle. Lord Byron used to swim across the bay
from Grotto Arpaia to visit Shelley in San Terenzo.
THURSDAY 29TH MAY
Livorno, Italy – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We drive to Montenero and its hilltop Sanctuary, which has views across the region’s
entire coastline.This 14th century church draws pilgrims to worship Our Lady, who,
according to legend, was miraculously transported here from the Greek island of
Euboea in 1345. After lunch on board, we visit Pisa for a guided walk of the town,
visiting the Campo dei Miracoli (the Field of Miracles) with its 12th century Cathedral,
Baptistry and Camposanto (cemetery). Guests will enjoy an authentic Tuscan food
and wine-tasting experience in an enoteca (tavern) before we return to the ship.
FRIDAY 30TH MAY
Calvi, Corsica, France – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
We take a scenic morning drive to the Calenzana area of north-west Corsica, arriving
at the pretty port town of Ile Rousse. Guests will be able to tour an olive mill and have
a tasting.There is an opportunity for lunch ashore and an afternoon in Calvi.This citadel
town has numerous places of interest including its Haute Ville on an 80-metre
promontory surrounded by Genoese fortifications, and four kilometres of beaches.
SATURDAY 31ST MAY
St Tropez, France
We drive to Château Sainte Roseline near Les Arcs.The estate is both a Côtes de
Provence winery and a former abbey, the Abbey de la Celle-Roubaud. Its Roman
chapel, built in the 12th century, has a mural by Chagall and a glass case holding the
body of Sainte Roseline, which draws pilgrims from all over Europe. Guests will enjoy
a wine tasting before we return to St Tropez. Lunch can be taken ashore, with free time
to explore this jet-set harbour town.
SUNDAY 1ST JUNE
Cannes, France – See Privately Escorted Tour Highlights
The morning sees us take the coastal road to Grasse, one of the centres of the French
perfumery industry. Grasse and its surrounding area produce some of France’s most
highly prized flowers, and the old town is home to more than 40 perfumeries.There is
an opportunity for lunch ashore, after which guests can spend the afternoon in Cannes,
strolling down its famous Croisette and imbibing the glamorous atmosphere of its
yacht-filled harbour.
MONDAY 2ND JUNE
Monaco
We spend the day in the Principality of Monaco, ruled by the Grimaldi family since
1297. A morning tour will take in Monte Carlo’s Casino Square, the historic Monaco
Rock, and the 19th century Cathedral where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier were
married.We will also visit the Prince’s Palace: there are panoramic views from the
square over the harbour. Guests can lunch ashore and continue to sightsee or just relax
in the afternoon.

of the historic centre were constructed in the town’s
golden age from the 11th to the 13th centuries,

The road from Calenzana traverses a spectacular
landscape between the coast and the mountains of
the Monte Grosso massif. The village of Calenzana
is the famous starting point for the famous GR20
long-distance hike.

GRASSE
Patrick Süskind set part of his famous novel Perfume in
Grasse.The old town is a fascinating place for a wander,
with steep winding streets flanked by 17th and 18th
century buildings.
