TRAVEL PLAN

MONDAY 5TH JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
Guests embark Hebridean Spirit in Durban.

TUESDAY 6TH JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
We take a guided tour of this Eastern Cape city, settled by the British military in 1824, including its Botanic Gardens. These opened in 1849 to trial commercial crops and now house one of the greatest cycad collections in the world. There is the chance to lunch ashore, followed by free time and perhaps an afternoon on the beach.

WEDNESDAY 7TH JANUARY
Durban, South Africa
We drive into the heart of Zululand to visit the Shakaland Cultural Village. The village gives a fascinating glimpse into Zulu traditions, rites and customs. Guests will observe traditional fighting techniques, dancing and cooking. After lunch at the village, guests can shop for crafts before we rejoin the ship at Richard’s Bay.

THURSDAY 8TH JANUARY
Richard’s Bay, South Africa
We spend a morning immersed in nature at the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. This coastal wilderness reserve and World Heritage Site is teeming with wildlife. Guests will take a boat ride on the vast lake, encountering pelicans, crocodiles and hippos.

FRIDAY 9TH JANUARY
At sea.

SATURDAY 10TH JANUARY
East London, South Africa
We arrive in East London and depart for a tour of this former British military base. Our sightseeing takes in the East London Museum and its coelacanth. Guests can take a pre-lunch swim at the pristine Gonubie Beach before Hebridean Spirit’s afternoon departure for Port Elizabeth.

SUNDAY 11TH JANUARY
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
We venture into the bushveld of the Eastern Cape to the Addo Elephant Park. Guests will enjoy a game drive in open 4x4s, observing herds of elephants as well as buffalo, rhino, antelope and many bird species. A picnic lunch will be served at the park.

MONDAY 12TH JANUARY
Mossel Bay, South Africa
After a morning at sea, we arrive at Mossel Bay. The explorer Bartholomeu Diaz arrived here in 1488, proving that Africa had a southern tip. Our tour will take in Mossel Bay Point with its breathtaking views out to the Indian Ocean, and the Bartholomeu Diaz Museum Complex, which marks the spot where Diaz landed.

TUESDAY 13TH JANUARY
Mossel Bay, South Africa
Mossel Bay is the starting point of the Garden Route, one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. Our exploration takes us to the picturesque lagoonside town of Knysna. Guests will lunch ashore and visit Featherbed Bay, a private nature reserve of forest and coastal paths that culminate atop a giant sandstone cliff.

WEDNESDAY 14TH JANUARY
Cape Town, South Africa
We arrive in Cape Town mid-afternoon and depart for an evening performance at the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre.

THURSDAY 15TH JANUARY
Cape Town, South Africa
In the morning we visit Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens, a beautiful showcase of indigenous South African flora. Guests will enjoy a guided tour followed by free time to ramble and take in the views from the upper slopes.
