Cape Town, South Africa
Guests embark Hebridean Spirit in Cape Town.

FRIDAY 27TH FEBRUARY
Cape Town, South Africa
We visit Groote Schuur Estate on Devil’s Peak above Cape Town. This mountainside estate was bought by Cecil Rhodes and bequeathed to the nation upon his death in 1902. Guests will tour the mansion (now the State President’s residence) and grounds. We lunch at the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel in Constantia Valley, a magnificent manor house with an award-winning garden. Guests will have a tour and talk before moving on to the famous Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens nearby.

SATURDAY 28TH FEBRUARY
At sea.

SUNDAY 1ST MARCH
Mossel Bay, South Africa
We drive to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo region, which has the biggest ostrich population in the world. Guests will visit a breeding farm and lunch ashore.

MONDAY 2ND MARCH
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
We arrive in Port Elizabeth in the afternoon and drive into the bushveld to the Addo Elephant Park. Guests will take a game drive in open 4x4s: a chance to spot some of the 450 resident elephants, as well as buffalo, rhino, antelope and many bird species.

TUESDAY 3RD MARCH
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
We spend the day on safari at the Kariega Game Reserve, a 5,000-hectare park that is home to the Big Five as well as eland, zebra, wildebeest and many bird species. Guests take game drives in open 4x4s and enjoy a riverboat cruise down the Kariega River.

WEDNESDAY 4TH MARCH
East London, South Africa
We take a morning tour of East London, established as a military post by the British in 1836 and known as Buffalo City because of its location at the mouth of Buffalo River. Afterwards, we drive to the Blue Flag Gonubie Beach for a swim before lunch on board and an afternoon at sea.

THURSDAY 5TH MARCH
At sea.

FRIDAY 6TH MARCH
Richard’s Bay, South Africa
The morning takes us to the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a coastal wilderness reserve and World Heritage Site. Guests will enjoy a wonderful boat ride on St Lucia Lake, to see pelicans, hippos and crocodiles. There is free time after lunch on board.

SATURDAY 7TH MARCH
Richard’s Bay, South Africa
We drive into Zululand to visit the Shakaland Cultural Village. The village gives an authentic insight into the traditional Zulu lifestyle. Guests will see dancing, singing and craftsmen at work. There will be the chance to buy local crafts and relax over lunch before we rejoin the ship at Durban.

SUNDAY 8TH MARCH
Durban, South Africa
We take a morning tour of Durban, settled by the British military in 1824. Guests will see many examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture, and the Botanic Gardens, which opened in 1849 to trial commercial crops and now has one of the greatest cycad collections in the world. There is the chance to lunch ashore, followed by a relaxing afternoon, swimming from one of the Golden Mile beaches or shopping in town.

Durban, South Africa
Guests disembark Hebridean Spirit in Durban.
