Go on safari at a wilderness reserve. For each of these options, days start early to ensure guests see as much game as possible, and end with sundowner game drives. During the day, enjoy free time to enjoy the splendid facilities each lodge has to offer.
Wilderness Reserve Safari
We have three exciting choices for wildlife lovers at game reserves in South Africa and Namibia.
Stay at the Phinda Private Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and you will have access to 22,000 hectares of land and seven habitats supporting an abundance of wildlife: the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, black and white rhino, and buffalo) as well as an incredible 380 bird species. Guests will enjoy game drives led by experienced rangers and Zulu trackers in open 4x4s, interpretive bush walks and sailing and canoeing on the Mzinene River.
Stay at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge and the desert wilderness of the NamibRand Nature Reserve will be at your feet. Spanning 180,000 hectares of the Namib Desert, this is the largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa, an otherworldly landscape of dramatic mountains, red sand dunes and endless horizons. Desert-adapted wildlife thrives in four distinct habitats: see the rare mountain zebra, the oryx antelope, leopard, hyena, desert reptiles and beetles. Bird-watching is also superb, with several species unique to the Namib.
Still in Nambia, you can stay at Onguma Plains Suites and explore the Onguma Private Nature Reserve in Etosha National Park. This 20,000- hectare nature reserve is home to over 30 animal species: plains game such as kudu, giraffe, eland, oryx and zebra, and predators including lion, leopard and cheetah. Enjoy game drives in the reserve and nature drives in Etosha National Park.
The area is also a bird-watcher’s paradise during the Namibian summer (December to March), when thousands of species respond to seasonal rains by migrating to the wetlands.
