Steaming north to Gairloch, saunter through Osgood MacKenzie's world-class Inverewe Gardens, which he so magnificently created from a rocky wilderness as a young man in the 1860s, or stroll up tranquil Flowerdale Glen.

Cruise the rugged Sutherland coastline to walk by secluded Loch a' Chairn Bhain in a wild setting. Rounding Cape Wrath, the dreaded point of no return for Viking longboats, Hebridean Princess anchors overnight in sheltered Loch Eriboll.

Past the dramatic, sweeping seascapes of Sutherland and Caithness and if his Royal Highness is not in residence, discover a majestic jewel in the Castle and Gardens of Mey, the late Queen Mother's home in Scotland. From Orkney's vibrant capital of Kirkwall travel into modern history at the Churchill Barriers, built by Italian prisoners of war, and the delightful Italian Chapel, their enduring memorial.

The Vat of Kirbister on Stronsay's east coast is truly spectacular en route for Papa Westray, dubbed an 'Orkney in miniature', rich in prehistoric sites and birdlife. Sail onwards to Westray and Noup Head Lighthouse dating from 1898, where the sheer rocks of Noup Cliffs nearby are home to Orkney's largest seabird colonies. Returning to Mainland and Stromness, wonder at Orkney's Neolithic heritage at Skara Brae, Maes Howe and the Ring of Brodgar, testimony to some 5,000 years of settlement.

Cruising Scapa Flow, past the wreck of 'HMS Royal Oak', Hebridean Princess crosses the Pentland Firth south to Helmsdale. Sir Charles Barry's Dunrobin Castle, uniquely blending Scottish Baronial and French Renaissance styles, is our final gem.
