Grand Cruise to the Outer Isles

12 Jun 2012- 10 nights
From £4450 pp
on Hebridean Princess
Tuesday 12th Jun to Friday 22nd Jun 2012
10 nights

Including 3 Gala Dinners

Saunter through Kyle Rhea and the Inner Sound, stroll at white-washed Shieldaig, spilling picturesquely onto the loch below the mighty Torridon beinns.

Saunter Inverewe Gardens, Osgood MacKenzie's brainchild, nurtured by the warm North Atlantic Drift, or savour the solitude of Flowerdale Glen. Echoing to the sound of Measach Falls, the deep canyon of Corrieshalloch Gorge seems far from Ullapool.

On lush Tanera Mòr, climb Meall Mòr for panoramic views or call at the unusual post office, and from the spectacular bird cliffs of Handa round Cape Wrath into Loch Eriboll. Sailing for Rona and Sula Sgeir, sense the isolation of the remotest of our national bird reserves, abandoned in 1844.

Onwards to Lewis and Stornoway, the power of history is tangible from the Callanish Standing Stones, to Carloway Broch and the restored Black Houses nearby. Look out to sea from the northern tip of the Outer Isles on the wild, windswept Butt of Lewis and visit St Moluag's Church at Eoropaidh. Weather permitting, Hebridean Princess sails overnight to St Kilda. Cruise the echoing bird stacs of Boreray and Lee.

Wander the hillside cottages and cleits of Village Bay, evacuated by the residents in 1930, severing traditions of over 5,000 years. Afternoon cruise en route for Barra. From Castlebay explore the beauty of Vatersay before crossing to the Small Isles. Discover another gem at Canna House Walled Garden, superbly restored by the National Trust for Scotland, a world away from wildly magnificent Loch Coruisk on Skye, dwarfed by the jagged Black Cuillin, our final landfall.
